Fanano is the largest municipality in the Alto Frignano mountain area, with a large proportion of its territory of 90 square kilometres lying within the Alto Appennino Modenese Regional Park.
Awarded the prestigious Touring Club Italiano “ORANGE FLAG” mark, assigned to the best non-seaside holiday resorts, it is a town with many attractions for visitors, standing at the feet of Mount Cimone (2165 m.), while the municipality district ranges from 600 to 2165 above sea level. Fanano is 60 Km from Modena and 75 Km from Bologna and is easy accessible by car from the Modena Sud and Bologna Casalecchio motorway exits (follow signs for Vignola and then take the good “Fondovalle Panaro” road for Fanano itself) and from Pistoia and Lucca (taking State Highway 324 through Porretta Terme.
The public transport links to Fanano are good, with coach services direct, or with changes at Vignola or Pavullo, from the Modena and Bologna railway stations; the nearest airports are at Bologna and Florence.
The Municipality of Fanano also includes the villages of Canevare, Fellicarolo, Ospitale, Serrazzone, Trignano, Trentino and Lotta, and its total resident population of just over 3.000 increases exponentially during the holiday seasons.
